A Reflection

Seventh grade has given me many fun memories, but here are three. My first memory is in science when we were taking a chemistry test. This is one of my favorite memories because chemistry is one of my favorite subjects and it was super enjoyed to do the test. Also it was fun when I got my score back because I got an A+. My second memory is in math when we took the unit ten test. I loved taking this test because on the test was the Pythagorean theorem, which I really loved learning! My last memory is when I found one of my favorite authors (Douglas Adams) in the library. This was a good memory because he also wrote on of my favorite books (A Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy).

RAD Reading – April

Holding up The Universe is a 391 page, fiction written by Jennifer Niven which takes place in Amos, Indiana. In the beginning Libby and Jack are 16 and 17 years old, a girl and boy who feel that no one understands them until they cross each other’s path. As the conflict develops, Libby faces the challenge of being judged by her weight and Jack faces the challenge of dealing with prosopagnosia, a condition where someone cannot remember anyone’s face. In the rising action Libby goes back to school ( she hasn’t been going to since fifth grade and is now going to high school). Libby first crosses paths with Jack after he joins a game called fat girl rodeo, where you jump on overweight girls and see how long you can hold on. After he jumps on Libby, she fights to get him off, after shaking him off she punches him. Then a teacher catches them and they both go to the principals. While at the principal’s office they protest, but eventually get community service together and have to do school counseling every Saturday for the rest of the school year. After a few counseling sessions Libby is waiting outside in the rain for her father, who’s running late. Jack sees Libby standing there and offers a ride, but she refuses. Eventually Jack tells him to at least wait inside of the car for her father. In a pivotal moment, Libby finds out about Jack’s face blindness and suggests he gets tested, so in October the two decide to go together to get Jack tested. They end up skipping a day of school to get Jack tested. On the drive back they end up kissing right before Libby gets out of the car to go inside her house. The falling action tells of how Jack later told Libby that they shouldn’t date. In the resolution, Libby and Jack meet at the park to talk.

Holding up The Universe was not one of my favorite books, but it has great character development and shows how you must learn about others and yourself. It kinda follows the theme of don’t judge a book by its cover. So overall it’s a great book, just not one of my favorite books.

Holding up The Universe has many great characters, but my favorite is Jack. This character starts to develop and understand his face blindness a little more. This can be proven in this quote “Everyone in my life is a stranger, that includes me”.

My favorite line in the book is “ I’m not a shitty person, but I’m about to do a shitty thing. And you will hate me, and some other people will hate me, but I’m going to do it anyway to protect you and also myself.” This line gives you insight of what will happen further into the book.

Week 4 – 20% project

Week four went by fast, my twenty percent project close to being finished! The big presentation for my twenty percent project is May seventeenth. This week I practiced getting better at making origami jumping frogs and learning how to make two new origami boxes. Out of these three origami figures making the star box was the hardest to complete, because of its complex shape. For this week I had zero adjustments to make. Next week I want to practice making cranes, flowers, and make origami bunnies. For next time I wanted to practice making cranes because I’ve only made them once the entire time. Also making origami cranes is difficult for me because of the various folds. For the flowers, I want to use the in my presentation/display. I chose to make origami bunnies because this week I saw a couple bunnies come out of the bushes by our school library.

Week 3 – 20% project

Week three of my 20% project I completed a bouquet of origami flowers, practiced making origami dinosaurs, and learned how to make an origami boat. Out of these three things making the bouquet was the hardest. This was difficult because I had to make many flowers, then had to figure out a way to add stems on the. Though the origami boat was also quite difficult to make as well. For the next week I wanted to practice making another bouquet, but I am leaning towards doing something else. So Instead I might practice origami jumping frogs. I want to practice these because they hard to make make. The process of making the jumping frogs was easy, but I got stuck on several folds last time. Also want to learn two new origami origami figures. These two origami figures will be an origami dish and an origami star box. I chose these two origami boxes because of their unique design.

Week 6 – 20% project

For week six, I practiced making the origami I’ve learned in the past six weeks. Also worked on my tri-fold and script for presentation day. The hardest part of week six was practicing all of the origami I’ve made. This was difficult because of the number of origami I’ve made. For my tri- fold I haven’t begun adding thing on it, but I do have a plan on what I’m going to do and where I’ll place everything. I’m almost done with my script, I just need to check my grammar and spelling. Then print it out and practice it. Next week Is when everybody will be presenting! On Wednesday May seventeenth parents will come to our school and look at our tri- folds listen to what we have to say and possible comment on what we’ve done. Then the next day we’ll start in class presentations. During the class presentation we’ll share what we’ve done throughout the six weeks.

Week 5 – 20% project

Week five was struggle, with practicing origami cranes, flowers, and learning how t make a bunny. The hardest part was making the cranes. This was difficult because of the various folds and how many different steps there are. Making the flowers were the easiest part because I’ve made the many times now. The origami bunnies were also very easy because of the repeating steps. Next week I’m going to start rapping everything up, because presentation day is coming up. So I’m going to practice all of the origami I’ve made so far. Also will be working on the presentation. For the presentation I’ll be using a tri-fold and making a script that’ll have me speaking for at least two minutes. Though I’m not sure of what to put on my tri-fold yet and will probably brainstorm earlier in the week instead of just friday. For my script I will just talk about what I’ve done for the past six weeks.

Little or A Lot

Sometimes people can be overwhelmed by how much they own that they don’t know what to do and start getting upset. On the other hand, others have just enough to be happy with whatever they’re doing. Having to many things happens to a lot of people including me. I have a lot of items in my room, but the problem is that I never know what to do so I get upset and just end up laying in bed. Though I see some of my friends that just have a couple of items to use and they seem much happier. So, this quote mean that you don’t have to have everything to be happy.

Week 1 – 20% Project

Hi my name is Jaden, and a 20% project is something you spend 20% of your time on. For my project I decided to do origami! While working on my 20% project this week, I learned how to make five new origami and made changes to my plan for next week. Instead of doing twenty origami figures a week I decided to do five or more a week. For next week I will be making five to ten new origami figures. My first week is off to a ruff start, but hopefully I can have a better week. For my struggles, I grabbed the wrong paper, so had to wait until I got home to do the origami. This week I learned how to make a bird, a box, a lucky star, a frog, and a heart. Out of these five the lucky star was the hardest for me to make.

Week 2 – 20% project

During the second week of my twenty percent project I completed six new origami figures. While making the origami figures I tried to match colors with what I was making, but a lot of the figures I was making can be multiple colors. The origami figure I made this week were another box, a dinosaur, an owl, a crane, a flower, and a swan. Out of these six the flower was the most difficult to make. Also I was using smaller pieces of paper that before, so that made it more difficult to fold. During the weekend I decided to make different sizes of the origami figures. For new week I was planning on doing five to eight origami figures. I have not yet decided what origami figures next week. Though I do know that I would’ve like to start trying harder origami figures. This week I didn’t make any adjustments to my plan.

Dinner Party people

Danya, Ritvik, and Tanish are three people I would love to invite to dinner. These three people go to tennis practice with me. In fact I have a class with them today! I would invite Danya because she always knows what to talk about and she always bickers with Ritvik and Tanish (these two are twins). Ritvik would be invited because we both have lot in common such as our favorite subject is science, we both love astronomy, he wants to be an astrophysicist and I want to be an astronomer, and we both like planning out where we wanna go to college. Also bickers with Danya and his brother (Tanish) and it’s super funny to watch. I would invite Tanish because he talks a lot, so the conversation would never end. One last reason for all three of them is that they’re all extremely smart!
